Enhancement of the childcare leave system

Both men and women are entitled to take childcare leave until their child reaches the age of one (or up to the age of two if the child is not admitted to a daycare center earlier).

■ What made you decide to take childcare leave?

When our eldest son and daughter were born, I experienced how my wife couldn’t get much rest due to their nighttime crying and diaper changes late at night. So with our third child, I wanted to make sure my wife could get as much rest as possible so that we could maintain a good relationship between us.

■ How did you spend your leave? Tell us what you learned from that.

During the day, I soothed our second daughter, fed her milk, changed her diapers, and gave her baths, experiencing the challenges of childcare. I also realized how difficult it is to perform various childcare and household tasks, such as taking our then 5-year old son and 3-year old daughter to and from daycare, preparing meals, and bathing them.

■ Message to soon-to-be fathers

Child-rearing is harder than you think.I encourage you to take advantage of the childcare leave system, if possible, and enjoy raising your child together with your wife.
